Occasionally, the ND Board of Optometry creates Board Policies based on interpretations of Chapter 43-13 of the North Dakota Century Code, which are not published in the Code. The following are General Board Policies adopted by the Board:
Board Policies
Continuing Education Approval Authority
Motion adopted: 05/20/2022
The State Licensing Board has the authority to approve education programs, clinics, seminars, meetings or study sessions for continuing education credits. The Board approves requests that are submitted. The Board will automatically approve all COPE, AOA, or NDOA continuing education courses.
OE Tracker Implementation
Motion adopted: 11/15/2011
The Board will use OE Tracker to keep track of CE hours beginning January 1, 2013. Fees are paid by the ND Licensing Board.
CPR Certification Policy
Motion adopted: 1/6/2010 and 8/7/2010
The Board strongly encourages all licensees to maintain their current CPR certification. Licensees who submit proof they have completed a board approved CPR course through a two-year reporting cycle earn one hour of continuing education credit.
Lease Agreement Documentation
Motion adopted: 12/6/2008
The Board requires all ODs practicing under a lease agreement to provide the Board with a copy of the current agreement annually unless there have been no changes other than the renewal date.
License Renewal Requirements
Motion adopted: 10/26/2001
Licenses must be renewed annually with the application, proof of continuing education, and a $200.00 renewal fee by December 31 of each year.
Standards of Care Guidelines
Motion adopted: 09/14/1996
Licensed practitioners in North Dakota are encouraged to review and adhere to standards of care set forth by the American Optometric Association Clinical Practice Guidelines.
